Storm Emma may be whirling her way around the UK but that doesn’t mean you have to look just as chaotic. Here’s how to tackle the Beast from the East like a fashion pro…
Upgrade your headgear

That old woolen beanie you knitted when you signed up to your university’s crafting club is not going to cut it. Swap it for a fluro beanie instead. We love ACNE Studios for a fun take. A baseball cap is also another warm option and the brim acts as a great snowflake deterrent. Otherwise, go for a beret. Whilst, the fashpack love Dior’s leather version, the high street is full of much more affordable options too.
Ditch the wellingtons

Instead, go for a hiking boot like Veronika Heilbrunner. It’s very “Gorpcore” – 2018’s version of “normcore” which essentially encompasses wearing clothing and accessories designed for outdoor activities like hill-climbing in an urban environment. The same goes for snow boots. Dig them out. At least five fashion people I follow on Instagram have posted shots of themselves smugly stomping through the London sludge. Tights, apparently, are optional.

Go bright or go home

Fashion people love a theme and Instagram’s Eva Chen seems to have taken the meteorological offices ‘red alert’ warning and applied it to her wardrobe too. If head-to-toe colour blocking is a bit too adventurous for you, go for one brightly coloured item instead. Even better if it’s in this year’s must-have ultra violet hue.
Continuing the theme, nothing says blizzard like an all-white look. However, don’t think it’s as easy as repurposing your Liz Hurley-esque white summer jeans. Instead, go for cosier fabrics, think corduroy trousers and cashmere knits. If you’re the type of person who spills their hot chocolate after one sip, keep the white theme strictly to accessories. Staud and Dense Lente are the bag names to drop.
Layer up

If you buy one thing this week make it a Uniqlo HeatTech long-sleeved top. Then add your favourite layers. Team oversized knits with a puffer jacket. And give lighter coats a new lease of life by pairing with a warm hoodie.
