7 steps to embracing your inner bad gal
In celebration of Rihanna’s 33rd birthday, we decided to take a leaf out of her book and become a bit more ‘Rihanna’. In her relativley short time being famous, Rihanna has achieved mind blowing goals, not only in her music career, but in fashion, beauty, activism and humanitarianism.
We decided to take a look over some of her biggest achievements and use them as inspiration for setting our own goals and actually achieving them. We have listed some of her trailblazing attributes below.
steps to becoming more rihanna
- Don’t let people tell you that you can’t do something
- Be creative
- Give what you can
- Work hard
- Step outside your comfort zone
- Don’t take any bullsh*t
- Remember to have fun
1. Don’t let people tell you that you can’t do something
Growing up in a poor family in Barbados, Rihanna was raised in a house of abuse and drugs. Her mum joked that she had an “annoying little husky man voice” and people in her village didn’t believe that she could make it in the music industry after her humble beginnings.
2. Be creative
Rihanna was named the creative director of Puma in 2014, alongside all of her Fenty beauty and Savage x Fenty lines. She put her creativity to the test and established herself as one of the most important people in fashion.
3. Give what you can
Rihanna was Harvard’s Humanitarian of the Year in 2017. Yeah we all know that she can afford to give money (which she did), but she also put hundreds of hours of work into her charity endeavours. In 2016, she launched a scholarship program (named after her grandparents) to help young people from Barbados, Brazil, Cuba, Haiti, Guyana, Jamaica and the United States go to college. This is alongside the countless charities she does ambassador work for, including UNICEF and more.
4. Work Hard
Not only is Rihanna a singer, charity advocate and fashion icon, but she is also a successful business woman. She worked hard to bring her makeup lines and lingerie collections to life. Rihanna launched Fenty Beauty in September 2017 and Savage x Fenty in May 2018.
5. step outside your comfort zone
Although Rihanna is primarily known for her music, she also dipped her toe into acting too. She did not attend professional acting schools like many of her co-stars, but she stepped outside her comfort zone and pushed her boundaries, going on to take lead roles in multiple blockbuster movies.
6. Don’t take any bullsh*t
Rihanna has been known to shut down sexist interviewers on many occasion. She knows what she stands for and doesn’t let people walk all over her, even when it can feel awkward or uncomfortable. At the launch of her perfume she was asked what she was “looking for in the next man”. She snapped back with the simple response “‘Im not looking for a man. Let’s start there”. Watch the video.
7. Have fun
Despite being a successful woman with more business ventures than we can dream of, Rihanna always takes the time to have a bit of fun. From carnival floats, to parties and basketball games. Remember if Rihanna finds time to take for herself, so can you.
